While mostly a genetic experiment, the UYS Breeding Challenge has some additional objectives designed to keep things interesting. Those who play generation after generation, after generation, of a legacy know that it can become horribly redundant. Marry. Impregnate. Go to work. Come home to organic macaroni and cheese. Go to the bathroom before you urinate on the floor. Time for bed; dream about waffles.Wash, rinse, repeat. Meh.

Hopefully the following will keep it fresh and interesting for all players.

Taking cue from PS3's Afrika, the idea is to snap pictures following a list of prompts during gameplay.

Each species has their own list of challenges but you do not have to take them all in one round. Rather, take a minimum of 3 per round rotation, preferably without repeats. The count may be split up between the species and general category.

Please remember the images may be no more than 750x750, not exceeding more than 10 per post.

As stated in the Getting Started thread, each player will play four round rotations. During each of your rounds you must complete at least one of the objectives in the list below. You may do so in any order and use lifetime rewards to help you succeed.

EQUINE
  • Produce 3 foals and become BFF with all.
  • Register as a self-employed Horseman/Horsewoman (Ambitions required). If you are registered, add $5000 to your estate with the family funds cheat when the heir is sent to the next player.
  • Befriend and adopt a wild horse. Gender permitting, it will breed your next round.
  • Reach level 5 in Racing or Jumping, and win a beginner level competition.
  • Receive the "Tireless Leaper" and "Long Distance Racer" titles by jumping over 150 obstacles and galloping over 20,000 meters, respectively.
  • Finish within the top 3 of an advanced competition.
  • Win an international competition.
  • Take home $2,000 or more in winnings in one round.
  • Win a beginner, advanced, and international competition of the same event.
  • Receive the "Endurance Equine" title after spending 15 hours training for races.
  • Max the riding skill.
  • Reach the top of the Horseman/Horsewoman career if applicable.
  • Conclude the challenge having produced 8 or more foals.
  • Dig up three different vegetables in a round.

CANINE
  • Produce a litter using an elder male.
  • Choose an heir as a puppy and teach them to be neat before sharing with the next player.
  • Teach to roll over.
  • Train a dog to hunt.
  • Become BFF with all puppies in a litter.
  • In one round, but not necessarily the same dog, teach to sit, sit up, play dead, roll over, speak, and shake.
  • Dig up a snake skin.
  • Reach level 5 of hunting.
  • Some dogs love everyone. Before sharing the heir, befriend 3 dogs from town.
  • Locate 5 gems in one round.
  • They say owning a dog is like having 2 kids. Test your sim's patience by producing 2 litters in one round and allow all but one dog to make a mess, be noisy, and a general asshole. Determine the worst of the bunch, and send that one as your heir. Enjoy! ;)
  • Find all 3 pieces and assemble a Mini Dinosaur Skeleton, Stone Hydrant, Diamond Dog, or Our Friend Fred.
  • Raise a guard dog and chase away a mailman.
  • Find 5 metals in one round.
  • Adopt a stray. Gender permitting, it will contribute to the next round.

FELINE
  • Become BFFs with all kittens in a litter before the heir is shared.
  • Reach level 5 of the hunting skill.
  • Catch a lizard, snake, and rodent in one round with the same cat.
  • Produce and manage 2 litters within one round play-through. You may not sell or put up for adoption until the heir is shared.
  • Earn a profit of at least $100 selling collected prey in one round.
  • Receive the Creeping And Crawling title by collecting 20 beetles.
  • You're a borderline crazy cat lady! Have 3 generations under one roof. Obviously you will need to adopt and hoard the kitties for this one.
  • Adopt a stray. Gender permitting, it will contribute to the next round.
  • Catch 3 rare prey (either in one round or spread out through each).
  • If you have a cat born with the clueless trait, it must reach level 3 of the hunting skill whether it is heir or not.
  • Squeaky clean! Share an heir without the entire household getting fleas in a round.

The Official UYS Breeding Challenge is a Sims3 round robin in which multiple players build a breeding establishment for horses, and/or cats and dogs. The player who elects to begin will produce an offspring and when they have played the length of the round, they must then be exported to share with the next player. Each player, real life permitting, will play four rounds.

In the allotted time you will be required to take photographs from a list of prompts and meet objectives listed here.

A list for quick reference during gameplay.

  • Build your estate. It can be all on one large lot or you may have several in a cluster of land. You may download a premade lot.
  • Create at least one pair for breeding. You may create others or adopt, if you wish.
  • While not an actual rule, it is recommended that you consider extending adult lifespans to allow more time for pairs to improve relationships enough to breed and meet goals.
  • Do not enter a cheat to alter a sim or animal's skill level. Lifetime rewards are allowed, however, as they are earned.
  • Occasionally genetic mishaps can occur, such as misplaced eel stripes, spots that are with the animal, but not on, and features that just flat out don't exist on their parents. For this reason you are permitted to fix such screw-ups with either the Master Controller or the testingcheats enabled cheat.

    TCE Instructions
    - CTRL + Shift + C brings up the the cheat box.
    - Type testincheatsenabled true to turn on TCE.
    - Shift + left click the sim/animal and you can put them in CAS.
    - Edit as needed, but keep as original as possible!
    - Type testingcheatsenabled false to close TCE.

  • Because everyone plays different lifespans, rather than share the animal when they have reached 12 days old (for example), it is instead required to do so when they are 5 days from elderhood.
  • While in CAP readying the received animal to join your estate, you may only alter the accessories they wear. Markings, coloring, and hair length must remain as is.
  • To prevent inbreeding, it is required to adopt or create a new animal for the start of every new round.
  • You may only change the personality traits of the animal passed down to you by using the Attitude Adjustment lifetime reward.

Whether you prefer to be a relatively large estate or small, with one large lot or several spread out across the world, you must start a thread with the following information:

Post One

WHO ARE YOU?
Post the estate's name and accompanying photo no larger than 750x750, preferably the exterior. List the owner(s) and any services you offer in addition to breeding. A short bioagraphy about the history of your estate is optional.

YOUR FACILITIES
Tell us about your estate. Where is it located? How many can you accommodate? If you occupy more than one place, what are they like and whereabouts are they in relation to your stables?

Posting images: If you choose to list all amenities you may either link to a photo of each one, or you may post one photo of the map showing us where each is located. Hell, do both if you want. I understand wanting to show off your hard work.

THE ANIMALS
In this first post, with text only, list each of your animals, their breed, sex, coloring, parentage, and any title they may have acquired.

Any new animals born at your establishment will be added to this list as they arrive.

Post Two

ANIMALS ON-SITE
Post at least one picture of each animal with their name. Because UYS has a rule that prohibits more than 10 images per post, we ask that any additional photo of each animal be in link form.

If you plan to breed all three animal types, it is recommended that you make a separate post for each. Due to more animals being added to the list at any time, please make a reserved post immediately after each animal type to allow for overflow. See this photo to clear up any confusion.

To other participants: please refrain from commenting until the thread creator has made their reserved posts.

It is recommended that you name your young in a way that will be easily identified among other players. For example, use your initials or abbreviations of the estate name.

Example 1
Name/initials/registered name = Sid NMD Obsidian Dawn

Example 2
Estate abbr./registered name = LG Aurora Sky

Each player must create a second thread to share their progress. While you don't have to share everything, you are at the very least expected to post the images related to the photo challenges or any competitions to prove they have been completed.

If you want to keep your kennel or cattery posts separate from your stable progress, feel free to make new threads for them.

When the time has come to pass on the animal to the next player, you must access the create a sim/pet screen by choosing the change accessories/edit saddle option in their menu. While in CAS/CAP screen you will see your animal's thumbnail down at the bottom of the screen, accompanied by three dots. Clicking this will give you the option to share via the exchange or save pet, which drops the sims3pack into your Saved Sims folder.

Not all members have an EA account so it might be best to upload to something like box.net or set up a dropbox account (which I am biased to... you can access it anywhere and it really simplifies the process). Then you would simply share the link via PM.

I recolored a bunch of things for a particular house, so watch for grungy recolors of both Windkeeper's Tokyo and Lefetre sets, as well as Lethe_s' victorian greenhouse with rusted metal and grimy glass. If you're into that kind of thing, that is ;)

Sims 3 Discussion / Your Thoughts on Generations
« on: Jun 08, 2011, 12:48PM »
Now that Generations is out, what are your favorite things about it? What do you hate?

I haven't gotten too far in yet, but I love the new interactions with toddlers and children, as well as the romantic ones. While I haven't gotten my couple married yet, I really love the idea of bachelor/bachelorette parties, and more snazzy weddings in general. The child and teen pranks are kind of cute, and I especially like the clubhouses.

I'm not terribly in love with midlife crisis. I get the idea behind it and it IS a nice change I suppose, but I found myself rather annoyed that right after I moved the sim out of the house I loved so much per her request, she immediately wanted to quit her job and get a makeover. I wonder what else there is...

Contests & Challenges / 365 Days of Sims
« on: May 13, 2011, 02:57PM »
A photo challenge for Sims1, Sims2, Sims3, and Sims Medieval. You do not have to post every day (or even here at UYS; tumblr is a great spot if you so choose!) or go in order, nor do they all have to be from one game. After all that would be more like work than play, which kind of defeats the purpose.

You will not need all EPs or SPs as things can be easily faked with the right custom content. Some prompts are pretty open to interpretation so use your imagination!

If you are participating feel free to post below or simply link to wherever you're sharing your images.

I know there's a ton of ppl who have accounts so if you're looking to have more friends or goodies to follow, link them here?

I'm still on the fence about getting one. Maybe seeing a bunch will help push me into it, but I know I already have 2 LJS and a DW, so it's like... how many things do I need? I was thinking maybe it would be good to have one to dump build and decorating pics into it, as well as link to photos I draw inspiration from (like one of Yuxi's bathroom pics recently... I totally stole the idea for Lilith Pleasant's place :P).

BLARGH. Convince me, lovelies.

Sims 2 Build/Buy Objects / Buggybooz Kitchen Basic Recolors
« on: May 07, 2011, 02:44PM »
This set was going to be a participation prize for a contest but I can't be bothered to actually run it, so... here you go :P

Planked recolors of Buggybooz Kitchen Basic set in all of Pooklet's natural colors. Thanks to repository the textures can also be used on the Shakerlicious set, KB addons and All Sorts Office matching set, as well as A Feast of Frames.

Files have been compressorized and named appropriately. Meshes are not included due to the sheer amounts linked to the original, but I also think it's safe to say everyone has them by now. Also please note due to the repository method you must download the Kitchen Basic counter for the recolors to show up on other meshes.
