Sims 4 Discussion / Get To Work
« on: Apr 05, 2015, 11:50AM »
Now that the first expansion has dropped, what do you guys think?

I only just got my copy yesterday so I haven't done a lot, but so far the new doctor career is pretty interesting. I was a little confused at first because it seemed like I was waiting forever to treat the patient, but then I realized I forgot to do something. The illnesses I've encountered are kind of amusing: bloaty head, starry eyes, llama flu. I think I remember something about giggling and gas? Most of the time it was pretty easy to handle, but occasionally my sim hadn't advanced enough to do anything so she had to pass them on to another doctor.

There are a few things that bug me though. There is no shortage of patients waiting to be seen in the lobby but there aren't many doctors. I've seen two others beside my sim, plus the receptionist. Sometimes it's just my sim and one other doctor, and that guy kind of just stands in front of one patient and they never get treated. So in addition to taking care of my own, I have to run over to treat his as well, while he just stands there and watches. On the occasion there's two other doctors, I can transfer a patient to them as told to... but only if I engage them in small talk first. Otherwise she just keeps on analyzing and it drops from the queue, while the timer continues to burn through the hours and not fulfilling my duties.

I'm looking forward to trying out the new photography and baking skills, and I'd love to open some sort of store for either. Perhaps it's the perfect time to make my starving artist sim who lives in the shipping container...

Random Discussion / Playing, Watching, Listening, Reading
« on: Mar 02, 2015, 11:59AM »
I'm posting this here 'cause I don't really feel like it's a game. Mostly because it's not something that will likely be changed quickly. I saw something like this in the comments at IGN and thought it was interesting.

Playing: Thief, Bioshock Infinite, Sims4, Little Big Planet 3.
Watching: The Walking Dead, Vikings, Girls, Helix, Mom, Banshee, Friends.
Listening: Foo Fighters Sonic Highway, Queens of the Stone Age, Coheed & Cambria, Incubus.
Reading: The Hobbit. Been a million years since I read it.

Games / Playlist Poetry
« on: Feb 02, 2015, 12:08PM »
I thought this topic was already on UYS but I guess not. Maybe I'm thinking of Sims Supernova.

Anyway, the idea is to shuffle your playlist and take the first line of ten songs. It can make for some pretty interesting poetry, and it's also kind of fun to try and figure out the song the lines are from (but you don't have to if you don't want to).

I wanted love, I needed love
I sat by the ocean
For a moment the world turns its back
Living your life like a bull in the trade
Love me
I dig my toes into the sand
She tripped on a hole that I dug in the soil
Dear Haley, can you save me from the borrowed cloud I'm on?
You have sailed through the eye of my needle
Been dazed and confused for so long it's not true

Random Discussion / E3
« on: Jun 10, 2014, 11:33AM »
While I know we already have gaming discussions I feel like this can stand on its own.

Are there any titles or new peripherals that really stand out to you?

I really love the look of Batman Arkham Knight, Uncharted 4, Assassin's Creed Unity, Mirror's Edge 2, The Division, Little Big Planet 3 and Far Cry 4, but only one of those I could actually play. I don't plan to buy a PS4 for a while. DA: I looks amazing too, and to be honest it reminds me a bit of Skyrim, which is always a win in my book, but I'm a little unsure at the same time. I didn't care for the first game (didn't try the 2nd which I heard was better) so I'd hate to get it and find out I still don't like it. As far as war games go, I'm sick to death of hearing about or seeing Call of Duty, but I'll admit Battlefield Hardline seems kind of cool. I'm also surprised the Borderlands Pre-Sequel is on older consoles.

I'm not really big on dancing (because I suck) but in the past I've used it for exercise. That said, the Just Dance Now app is kind of a neat concept. Being able to play with tons of people is interesting and it's even better that you can do it anywhere without a console. I think I heard them say it was free, too? Only thing I'd be worried about is accidentally throwing my phone :P

Sims 4 Discussion / Sims4 at E3 2014

Watch the EA press conference on the Sims4, as well as the stories gameplay. A release date was also announced: September 2nd!

What do you guys think?

Aside from finding out you can die from laughing too much, I feel like we didn't see anything we didn't already know. Disappointing, to say the least. But, I guess maybe we'll see more from demos throughout the week.

Sims 4 Discussion / New In-game Footage
« on: Jun 05, 2014, 11:06AM »
Sims VIP has posted a video with new in-game footage. It shows a little bit of interaction and different personalities, and a little more of CAS and build mode at the end.

The hair still bugs me a bit but other things look good.

Sims 4 Discussion / Official Build Mode Trailer
« on: May 28, 2014, 07:10PM »
The new trailer has been posted!

There are a lot of neat features and to be honest they have renewed my interest! I love that you can easily shift the height of the walls, foundations and windows, fully customize roofs, and the addition of rounded edges. I knew that it was supposed to be easy and fast to build a house, and it'll be great for those who are more interested in playing the game than the building aspect, but I think I personally would still do it the old way. Regardless of how you choose to build, being able to pick up the entire house and move it around the lot is pretty awesome. As for the UI, I kind of like it. It's understated and doesn't distract from what you're there to do.

I'm still not entirely sure how I feel about some things dealing with The Sims themselves but I'm not willing to write it off based on that because we all know how much creators can change our games for the good. But I can honestly say that build mode makes it much more appealing.

What do you guys think?
