Under Your Skin Updates / Update 1.20.16
« on: Feb 18, 2016, 07:31PM »
I realized I haven't posted site updates on here in a really long time! The most recent download was a set of PJs for teen to elder females.

There will be new content soon in celebration of thirteen years of UYS :) I never thought I'd be doing it this long...

Sims 4 Discussion / Sims4 Movie Hangout Stuff
« on: Jan 06, 2016, 03:00PM »
New stuff pack is dropping on January 12th centered around getting together for movies and a good time. It seems like it could be kind of fun but I can't imagine doing it often. Might be neat to make a movie theater though.

Trailer from the official Sims youtube

What are your thoughts?

Happy New Year everyone! :D This month I'd like to change things up a little bit using community lots. Rather than voting on the challenge buildings I'm going to put up a choice of two per game. You can do one or both... whatever you choose!

Per the usual, the goal is to take a dud and make it snazzy. Change or remove roof types. Tear out interior walls and readjust layouts. Throw in your favorite windows and doors, replace gross wallpaper with modern panels and trade that nasty floral couch in for a sexy leather sofa. Think of it as an empty canvas, for the most part! You've got an endless pile of money so why not make it everything you've ever wanted?

There are some, yes. We want to have as little as possible so not to stunt your creativity! Plus we're lazy and don't want to enforce them.

Challenge Rules
  • HAVE FUN!
  • Exterior walls must remain the same shape.
  • You may add or resize porches as long as there are no walls. However, you can get around this using fencing that looks like full height windows, or use moveobjects to place just windows and doors. Sims 2 greenhouse "walls" will be allowed as well. Sneaky sneaky! ;)
  • Community lots cannot change type.

We only ask that the outside of the chosen building maintain it's shape, otherwise you're completely demolishing the place and it no longer holds resemblance to the original. Community lots are to be redesigned with their original purpose in mind: a coffee shop must remain a coffee shop.

You may use any wall coverings, windows/doors, roofing, etc you want. There are no CC restrictions- use as much or as little as you'd like!

Please note: Sims 3 players must make the "All The Rave" Warehouse a nightclub/bar to reflect the name, despite the whole lot of nothing the building contains. This is in Riverview, which is available for free on the Sims 3 Store.

That aside, the only other rule is that you must post in the challenge thread. Standard posting rules apply.

Your January 2016 challenge lots are all communities. Some lots may require an expansion pack or free download.

Welcome to the UYS Maxis Makeover Building/Decorating Challenge! First and foremost we'd like everyone participating to have fun. This is in no way a competition riddled with rules or deadlines, but a way for our members to come together and share the love of building and decorating.

Please note that although this is a bimonthly challenge you will not need to finish before the next one begins. Threads will remain open for anyone to participate at any time, allowing new or returning members to get in on the fun if they're arriving a bit late. Let's be honest, life is a bitch and tends to get in the way!

Every challenge will feature one lot from each Sims game. Some months will feature residential while others will have community. If it is determined that participants all have the same EP perhaps we will do vacation destination, downtown lot, etc. You do not have to do all three game challenges if you have them installed!

The goal is to take a dud and make it snazzy.

Random Discussion / Nanowrimo
« on: Oct 29, 2015, 07:45PM »
November is national novel writing month (or Nanowrimo)! Anyone participating this year?

I did my first a couple years ago and got nowhere near the goal, but it was kind of fun all the same. I'm considering doing it this year with a rewrite of the the same story, seeing that it didn't end up quite what I wanted. It will require a lot of prep first but even if I have to wing a lot of it, maybe later on I'll find myself able to piece things together and have something manageable. Here's hoping anyway! :P

Sims 2 Screenshots / Back In My Day...
« on: Oct 29, 2015, 01:16PM »
Post your really old pictures here. Think of it as Throwback Thursday... everyday! :P It can be pics of sims, houses, your old custom content, etc.

I dug into one of my old photobucket accounts but it doesn't go back as far as I thought. Which is a shame because I don't really have anything before 2007 I think.

Anyway, here is some guy that was going to be a in a story that never went anywhere, before I started the Cutlers.

And while it's not Sims themselves, get a load of the UYS layout from 2007. Ugh, it was so gross :(

I've decided to open suggestions now so there's ample time to not only recommend lots but vote on them before the month starts.

For Sims3 players who might not want to go in game and gawk at every single house, you can check out Summer's Little Sims3 Garden's huge lot listings to narrow it down and look at interiors.

Carrying over from the last thread...

Sims 2

11 Oat Street, Pleasantview
A tiny little cabin in the woods not far from the water tower. It's such a small space to work with and could be interesting to make something unique.

I just want to say I would allow the removal of the bizarre angled walls that stretch between both roofs. They're kind of roof pieces anyway, but just wanted to be clear.

Life Outside Sims / Prince Edward Island 2015
« on: Aug 30, 2015, 10:23PM »
I'm being super lazy by just pulling pics off my instagram instead of editing the originals properly, but here are some pics I took while on vacation.

This is the Confederation Bridge, a 15ish minute long drive from New Brunswick to Prince Edward Island. It's privately owned (therefore well maintained >.>) and made a much faster way to get there as people use to have to take a ferry. It's only 18 years old.

On the way back home the last quarter of it was completely in fog. It was both creepy and awesome.

The private beach where we stayed. The sand was super soft in the water this year for some reason and it was difficult to walk without sinking.

Sunset at the cottage the first night.

The Greenwich National Park. I've been wanting to go the last couple times we've been on the island but for whatever reason never made it out there. It took quite a while just to get to the boardwalk section as there was a really long path that went along some fields until eventually you reach the woods, and then the boardwalk. It was so beautiful there and we picked the perfect day to go! It was cooler and not quite so humid.

Sunset at the Point Prim Lighthouse.

When I feel less lazy I'll post other pics.

Feel free to suggest any Maxis/EA base game lots here and we'll vote for September's challenge later on when I add a poll. The runner-up can be used in the next one, unless you guys decide you'd like to recommend others.

ETA: Can those who plan to participate list which EPs and SPs you have so any future choices can reflect it? Thank you :)

Contests & Challenges / Multi-game challenges coming soon!
« on: Aug 29, 2015, 10:53AM »
MsSimmer and I have been discussing a Maxis Match building challenge off and on the last month, and I've decided to launch it in September. It'll have one lot from each game so everyone can participate, and it will remain open so it can be completed at any time... even if it's 6 months from now! ;) I'd like to make it a bimonthly thing but we'll see how it goes.

While I know building isn't for everyone, I was wondering if you guys would like to do a sim makeover in between the building ones? Or hell, even if it runs the same time?

Note: I forgot to say there could be no room additions to the houses so this month we'll allow it! I'd also like to point out that you can remove porches, shrink or enlarge them, and in the case of Cormorant you may edit the support columns made of walls below the house if you moved the walkway. As long as you aren't changing the main wall shape it's all good! :)

Sims 4 Discussion / Sims4 Get Together Announced
« on: Aug 05, 2015, 07:17PM »
Early this morning (4am EST, at least) EA announced the next Sims4 expansion pack: Get Together. You can watch their press conference here, or watch the official trailer.

While a lot of the community seem to be pissed off about this coming before pets or seasons, and of course toddlers, I personally feel like it was the right thing. We can currently send our sims on vacations, to the spa, have fabulous patios, and of course to work, but they don't have anything that really brings them together socially. They should be able to go out on the town and meet with friends for real club or party experiences. We need that more than snowfall or a litter of kittens at this point in time.

Sims 4 Discussion / Half Walls & Locked Doors Coming Soon!
« on: Jul 02, 2015, 08:04PM »
SimsVIP has found new text in the game files that tells of half walls and locked doors coming July 9th! According to their twitter someone has seen it mentioned in the gallery as well.

I already use a mod for locked doors but I am so happy to hear of the half walls!
