Got an idea for a contest or challenge you'd like to run by other members generating more interest? Sound off here!
Sizza's storytelling contest has been postponed for the time being (the thread has not been deleted but moved to moderator discussion for safe keeping) as the forum hasn't been terribly active, and aside from chatter there didn't seem to be a lot of interest at this point in time. When there is more interest in it however, should Sizza still want to host it, it'll be moved back here. In the meantime feel free to throw some ideas around.

I've actually got a makeover contest in the works, if that's alright with everyone.
-
Perfectly alright. I was thinking about hosting one of those too but I still haven't come up with some quirky bit to make it speshul and that would get people really excited so... But yes, yay, makeover contests are always fun :)
-
Sounds spiffy, Kayleigh. You also mentioned a house makeover contest. That sounded like fun too.
-
I'd love the house makeover more just because I'm better at that sort of thing. But either way, both are awesome. I'd be happy just judging though... even if I've never done it, lol.

I haven't really thought about it and i don't know if it's been done before, as i haven't followed many contests, but how about one, where everyone is given the same main pieces of furniture and they have to use them in the room/s they decorate and furnish? Different recolors can be used and any size room, but the main pieces have to be incorporated (a couch, a bed, a vase and... a bike , for example) somehow. It would be interesting to see how people can create different things while using the same meshes and what they will add on their own.
Does that sound stupid? Or it's been done before?
-
Really like that idea! You mean people could and would be encouraged to try out recolouring objects (the main pieces) as well?
-
I think they did that at BPS once, it seemed interesting. I'm not going to host any house/room contests myself cause I know nothing about it, though. xD

S2S did something similar last year, where each round there were certain things you had to have. It was called around the couch, and I think they might have gotten the idea from BPS. I participated (it was my first contest and I won o.O) and it was pretty fun :)
-
For what it's worth, I really, really like that room decor idea. Simple, yet challenging. :)
-
I concur. Only because I love to decorate rooms to my liking. Even the smallest little detail thrills me XD
-
I just like being able to manipulate and create things. Putting some restrictions on them makes it more challenging but it's so much fun then. I hope we have a contest soon!!!

Oh, nevermind then. I don't wanna be accused of stealing someone's idea.
-
If you really think about it a lot of the contests around the sims community were borrowed off of someone else's ideas. I'm sure no one would accuse us of stealing it, and really all we'd have to do it put our own spin on it.
-
Yeah, i guess that is true. I've never hosted a contest though, so i wouldn't even know where to begin :-[ And i can't make any prizes either, so that would make a potential contest really, really boring, LOL!
-
I've never hosted one either, lol.
-
Neither have I, but whatever contests anyone wants to host here, I'm volunteering for making some prizes!
-
I made a Sim for a makeover contest, but I haven't gone any further than that. Hopefully once I feel better/get back from Boston, I'll be motivated to get the contest going.
-
Alright, thanks for the heads up.
and YAY Io, you're so awesome! :)

Hmm, we really need to do something to get it more lively in here. I was thinking of a couple things... let me know what you think and if you might be interested.
First, a round robin. I haven't participated in one yet but from what I can gather someone starts out and when the generation is over it's passed on to someone else. No idea how the house is handled, but anyway.
Second, a building and decorating challenge. Doesn't necessarily have to be a contest... I'd be happy with just getting people involved at all. So I'm thinking maybe taking an assigned space (a particular existing Maxis lot) or just building size specifications, and make either a business or community lot. It could be anything -restaurant, clothing store, whatever- with certain guidelines (I don't know, like a water feature or something). Just... something unique. And something to do for fun.
-
I've been lazy about setting up the makeover contest. I'm just not feeling too motivated lately. So whatever you can think of would be great.
-
Well as has been proven with our Bellamy round robin, I'm terribly slow with them. Each update comes over a month after another. But I thought of another half-assed idea for the forum: how about some bigger, themed project where people learn to and make CC for? Not exactly like the monthly themes like on Gos and BPS, and I don't know if it needs any sort of contest element in it, but something that the whole community can participate in, with uploads, pictures (like sort of inspirational photo sets?) and so on. Haven't really thought of it more.
I really like the lot decoration idea you're having too, Yuichen. Could it be combined with what I thought above? I guess to get things started we might need to get to doing something, because I'm itching to get to work with some larger project :) So volunteering for helping with anything you guys come up with! And if Kayleigh's alright with it, I could burp out another small makeover contest soon? Yes, no, maybe, let's think about it for another month? ;D <3
-
That's a good idea! We do have a section for events and I think a themed project would fit in there rather nicely :) The lot deco thing could work with it too.
-
I've always liked artistic vision style contests - a few random words to inspire a creation. Could work well for either Sims or decorating challenges!
-
They are very interesting. I love a lot of the things the sim challenge at Gos has turned out :)
In any case, I have a one round (Kayleigh and I thought it was best to do smaller ones for now) building & deco challenge nearly ready. It's for both TS2 & TS3. The hold up is finishing the TS3 participation prize. It's taking me forever to finish and I really hope in the end it'll work out fine, otherwise I have no idea what I'll do >.>
-
I think I've got an idea. It's crazy and I'm not sure if it's original or not but here I go.
You know those Top Model contests with horribly frankensimmed pictures and ~high fashion~? I was thinking we have a similar contest, except all the contestants must be ZOMBIES. :D Each user needs to take a smelly, rancid and rather dumb zombie into a fierce fashionista that can walk down the runway. It's somewhat original and it can be funny as well. I believe it is a contest that will be fun, exciting and not too complex. If anyone disagrees feel free to state it, but it's just an idea I had. Any opinions?
-
Haha that sounds like it could be interesting! xD
-
I'm glad people like my idea :D Ja told me that if there were a contest then she wants to make the prizes. However she's busy with something else at the moment so I'd like to wait a week or two. If I get an ok from the mods I can get this contest in motion, I think it'll be so much fun. ;D
-
I look forward to it :D
-
Yeah I think everyone's a bit busy at the moment but after the holidays it should be fine :)
-
It would probably be a good idea to wait until January to start it. Hopefully witht he new year we can set into motion our plans to get this place up and active.
-
Well, the holidays have come and gone! I hope everyone had a good, festive season.
How goes the ideas for a contest? I'm still game, and so many of these ideas sound so nifty! I can't wait!
-
Not sure what is going on with the contests/challenges yet but an event will be announced next month.
I don't think it's been mentioned in here yet, but a breed out the ugly (or perhaps breed in the ugly) challenge could be interesting. I know they did it at GOS, but this could work for both games and maybe we could... throw something different in somehow. I don't know.
-
Right, so, we've got some (kind of) ideas going. Let us know what you think.
1.) Sim challenge of some sort.
2.) Genes challenge (ugly to teh pretty or pretty to ugly?) with 10-15 set Maxis/EA townies & NPCs. For both games.
Also, just to mention it because I am bored and looking forward to both... two events in the future. One quite soon (expect an announcement in a couple weeks) and one for this time next year. Fun times.
-
I think the genes challenge would be interesting and cool to try. I've never done a contest before so I'm game for anything :)
-
I've been thinking about what we could add to it to make it a little different. Like for S2 players a requirement being an alien abduction (actual abduction not insim alien pregnancy) somewhere along x generations, and for S3.... have a ghost baby? It sounds simple enough in the wiki... you just pursue the ghosts found in the cemeteries like a regular living person.
I'm sure S2 players would probably use insim to age them up faster, and I believe S3 players can if they use awesome mod or that story progression thing (neither of which I do), but people would be encouraged to actually play it out.
In the meantime, Cadoc is testing a bigger and longer challenge (though could even be a contest depending on how you choose to look at it) in her own game we've been brainstorming the last couple days.
